Leah Tommela, a student in the Court Reporting Program at South Coast College, is only one of the many South Coast College students who commute far distances to attend the college of their choice. Leah started South Coast College in July 2012 and has completed the top speed (200 wpm) that is required to go to the Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) Examination. Her motivation to work hard to achieve her goal is the distance that she has to travel to attend the college. Students travel from Victorville, San Bernadino, San Diego, Simi Valley, and other such distant places. Some commute by train; others, by automobile.
Court reporting is such a specialized type of program that very few programs exist in the state. South Coast College is one of the leading providers of court reporters to the courts and deposition agencies in the state. As a result, students, like Leah, have an established network of individuals who readily assist graduates of the Court Reporting Program.
